The overall user interface of the Leica M262 turned out to be a bigger upgrade than I expected too though its still not been quite the perfect experience. Unsurprisingly, the camera never really made a breakthrough in the video world so perhaps Leica decided it wasn't worth keeping it. Although I know right from the gate that my M-P Typ 240 wont get as much use as my new heart winning M9-P, it will however keep me from having that inevitable internal debate of owning just one old or new M body. They also give the image sensor a better probability in identifying the right area of the scene to focus on in more automatic modes. With AF tracking, once you choose the subject and press the shutter release part way down, as the subject moves, the autofocus will follow it. The fact that Ive somehow managed to rationalise my way out of that opinion doesnt change how good the M262 really is, and indeed how well suited to me I once felt it to be. Additionally, I really like the simplified look and small upgrades the MP versions offer. All features aside, my lust was triggered by the drastic reduction in size. So its not a financial burden to have it around, and selling it wont yield me that much cash, and I have no desire to sell it anyways since its my favorite M of all time that still serves some legitimate purpose. Weight savings from the M10 may be there, but with a Thumbs Up in the hot shoe, the M240 feels good and substantial in the hand.ISO setting. All other things aside, they, Leica M cameras, are unique. I do use this feature fairly often as an alternative to using a screw in BW filter. In short, getting two cameras- a classic and a modern type, solves the damnable inadequacy issue that arises in all of us when you own just one type. I think either will be a fine way into a Leica. The color profile is quite different too, with more electric blues and purer reds. You can get two M-Ps (old and new) for the same price as one M10. Dont get me wrong Hamish, if I didnt have to give the Taxman an additional sum equal to a Leica M10 last Spring, Id have been tempted! All the added features that the M240 brought to the table didnt really appeal to me, and specifically because I didnt think I was interested in live view, I felt that all the M10 could offer me was an ISO dial. Compared to the M9 Ive found less of a problem with magenta shift, especially in skin tones, though its fair to say the bias is still toward magenta as opposed the the green bias I found in my Sonys especially the older and cheapest ones that had frankly horrible colour-science. This can make the process of rationalising an upgrade quite difficult, though in my experience once the upgrade is made, it does tend to make a bit more sense. At0.68 magnification itll be hard to push to 75mm without a magnifier eyepiece x1.25 or x1.4. Thank you for it. The SET and the ISO buttons are much more useful though to be honest, I personally dont even use the stuff in the set menu either. For system cameras, having a focus motor in the camera's body allows you to use a wide range of lenses, including lenses which do not have their own focus motor.
